Story and Space is a studio class offered at the Multicultural Arts School in Chicago, IL. In this studio, students will have the opportunity to visit five different museums, where they will look at how objects tell a story. At the end of each session students will create blog entries that show what they learned. For the culminating project, students will create a model of a museum space and/or an audio guide that tells their own story.
it was interesting to find out that science and art mixed together. the way science is used to restore color, making the original painting more vivid. its a bit funny how some people, like myself, didnt notice that the paint on the painting has been faded. i actually thought that the painting was in original good condition hence its behind a protective air tight and moisture free sealed frame.
ReplyDeleteWhen our school (MAS) went to our last visit to the Art Institute of Chicago we got the chance to talk to the workers and ask questions about their jobs. The first worker we talked to from the AIC was Kathleen Berzock and she was the curator of African art. She showed us really cool artifacts out of their case. Then we got to the question parts. My question was "Did you always focus on studying African art or did you study other kinds of art?" she responded "I was required to study other art like Medieval but always focused on African art."
ReplyDeleteOur second worker was a conversation scientist by the name of Francesca Casadio we talked about her job their how the museum takes care of their paintings how old art changed color throught time and how they had to research to do all this.
In our last visit to the museum it was fun because we saw a lot of cool pictures that changed the way I think about things. By looking at African art that i only get to see once in a lifetime it changed my way towards art that one little simple thing. The statue of a woman was made of wood ant it was very cool. Also, we saw a very interesting painting by the famous French artist Seurat.
ReplyDeleteIn our visit to the art museum it was really interesting and fun we saw a lot of paintings and learned from their story and culture. We got to see two pieces of art out of their box. This was fun because we always see them in a box and we had a chance to actually see outside and see the details. I really makes a difference seeing them like that. I also learn that Francesca Casadio is a scientist and works with art. She showed us how they took small super little samples of the painting to observe the original color of the painting and how it changes throgh out time and with smoke or other effects in the air that effects the color of the paintings.
ReplyDeleteFrancesca Casadio, a conservation scientist at the museum, has a great job figuring out the original colors of an old painting. She gets to cut out a small piece of the painting and play with it. I would enjoy having this sort of job.
ReplyDeleteKathleen Berzock, the curator of African Art at the museum, also has a great job at the museum because she chooses what goes on display, such as the paintings and sculptures.

i think it was interesting how art and science mix.i never knew how art and science related to each other. francesca casadio is a scientist at the art institute her job requires alot of skill . she figuers out how old a painting is and its backrouned. i think fancesca has a rel cool job.kathleen berzock is a curator of african art. she specializes in african work she took the liberty if taking an art sculpture and letting us see it out side its box i thought it was really cool because ussally art is always boxed away.
ReplyDeleteWhat I liked about the last time we went to the Art Institute was that we listened to great speakers and talked about their artwork and telling how they worked at the Art Institute.Kathleen Berzock who was working at the art institute for 15years.
